Integrating Physical Health Dimensions in Middle Age and Older Adults Population: A Mixed Methods Protocol for Predicting Drug Use and Relapse through a Comprehensive Needs Model
ABSTRACT
Background:
Drug use poses significant health risks, with rising prevalence globally, particularly affecting middle-aged and older adults. In Indonesia, drug abuse has complex impacts across physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. Addressing these issues is crucial as Indonesia transitions to an aging population.
Objective:
This study protocol aims to develop a comprehensive model incorporating physical health dimensions to predict drug use and relapse among middle-aged and older adults, based on the Health Belief Model.
Methods:
We will utilize a sequential mixed-methods design, combining quantitative data from national databases and medical records with qualitative insights from stakeholders. The study will focus on individuals aged 40 and above, employing logistic regression to identify relapse predictors and thematic analysis to explore stakeholders' perspectives.
Results:
The study anticipates identifying key health needs and developing a preventive model addressing the specific requirements of vulnerable populations, enhancing the effectiveness of intervention strategies.
Conclusions:
By employing a holistic approach to address the multifaceted impacts of drug use, this study will aim to improve outcomes for middle-aged and older adults.
