Quality Improvement Competencies for Healthcare Quality Professionals: Protocol of A Scoping Review
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in executing, supporting, and assessing quality improvement programmes. Clearly defined competencies in healthcare quality are essential for optimal performance and serve as the foundation for both quality practice and the design of a capacity development program. Thus, this study aims to identify and explore the requisite healthcare quality professional competencies in implementing quality improvement initiatives.
Methods:
We will apply Arksey and O'Malley's scoping review methodology and Joanna Briggs Institute recommendations for our study. We will scan PubMed, Scopus, and Embase extensively. Grey documents will be searched on selected Ministry of Health websites in OECD countries, WHO regions with National Quality Policies and Strategies (NQPS), and Google search engine utilising quality improvement competence keywords. We will report our approach using PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. Data will be extracted into a matrix using our team's specified inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data will be analysed using inductive thematic analysis and narrative synthesis. Conclusion: Conducting this scoping review will present relevant evidence regarding the competencies in quality improvement for professionals in healthcare quality. The results will provide valuable insights for stakeholders in identifying and prioritising the necessary competencies to enhance the quality improvement skills of healthcare professionals in Malaysia.
