ABSTRACT

Background:

Cancer inequities for at-risk and vulnerable people remain a public health issue in Canada. Vulnerable populations experience higher rates of cancer incidence and mortality and lower survival rates than other populations.

Objective:

The objective is to identify barriers and facilitators to the adoption of digital health tools for breast cancer survivorship care and informs targeted interventions aimed at mitigating inequities among newly diagnosed adults in rural communities of British Columbia.

Methods:

Implementation science research will be utilised informed by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Expert stakeholders will develop digital health innovations and cancer navigation interventions.

Results:

Findings from digital health innovations and cancer navigation intervention will play a crucial role in enhancing virtual engagement, interactive education and digital health tools. Digital health innovations and cancer navigation interventions will enhance cancer survivorship care and delivery for adults newly diagnosed with breast cancer. This study will illustrate knowledge translation with experts, tailoring survivorship care to rural contexts, assessing readiness for change, utilising community engagement forums and tailoring digital technological innovations for newly diagnosed adults.

Conclusions:

The development of collaborative evidence-informed knowledge, research and engagement approaches will demonstrate promise in enhancing equitable access to breast cancer survivorship care in rural communities. Effective collaboration with partners, stakeholders, practitioners, policymakers and funding agencies is crucial for the implementation and evaluation of effective strategies that ensure the quality and satisfaction of survivorship care.
