ABSTRACT

Background:

High-quality nursing services are essential for improving patient satisfaction and health outcomes. However, challenges such as nursing staff shortages, increasing workloads, and the need for a responsive patient education system remain significant barriers. Information technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications such as Chat GPT, offers potential solutions to enhance patient education and assist nurses in providing more accurate and personalized information. Despite its promising potential in nursing education, concerns regarding information accuracy, privacy, and ethical considerations must be addressed. Therefore, further research is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness and limitations of Chat GPT in nursing practice.

Objective:

The scoping review objective is to explore Chat GPT's role as an educational resource in nursing practice.

Methods:

The literature search used three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest). The search criteria followed the Population, Concept, and Context (PCC) model, where the Population included 'Nursing' OR 'Nurse,' the Concept encompassed 'Artificial Intelligence' OR 'ChatGPT,' and the Context involved 'Health Education' OR 'Health Promotion' OR 'education' OR 'counseling' OR 'promotion.'.Inclusion criteria required studies published in the past ten years, written in English, and available in full-text format. The PRISMA ScR flow diagram was employed to visualize the article screening process, from identifying relevant studies to selecting those included in this review.

Results:

A total of 20 relevant articles were included. The findings indicate that Chat GPT and other AI tools are utilized in various aspects of nursing, ranging from patient education to clinical decision-making. Chat GPT has been shown to enhance patient engagement, simplify patient medical information, and improve comprehension through interactive scenarios. Additionally, integrating AI into nursing education has demonstrated improvements in critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and student satisfaction with learning experiences.

Conclusions:

Chat GPT holds significant potential to improve patient education and support more efficient nursing care practices. However, the integration of this technology must be approached with careful consideration of ethical, privacy, and accuracy concerns to mitigate the risk of misinformation in patient education.
