Technology Integration in Syrian Medical Education: A Cross-Sectional evaluation of Perspectives from Students and faculty
ABSTRACT
Background:
Technology integration refers to the coordinated application of technologies and digital devices as tools for understanding, and deeper learning.
Objective:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of awareness among individuals involved in the process of technology integration in Syrian medical education, as well as to identify the challenges and requirements encountered and propose potential solutions to address them.
Methods:
This was a cross-sectional study using a two self-administered questionnaires, each tailored to specific samples from the study population, which included 500 medical students, and 200 faculty members. The validity and reliability of the tool were verified, and a statistical analysis was conducted
Results:
A high level of awareness of the importance of technology integration in Syrian medical education, with 94% of medical students and 93.5% of faculty members in Syrian medical colleges agreeing that integrating technology is essential in the current era. However, the findings did not indicate any significant differences between faculty opinions about technology- enhanced learning (TEL) environments on the basis of years of experience or academic qualifications
Conclusions:
This study demonstrated that the use of modern educational resources increases students’ motivation to learn and increases their engagement in the educational process. It also contributes to improved knowledge and clinical skill acquisition compared with traditional environments. Future work is still needed to ensure that the educational environment is supportive, pleasant, and equipped with effective techniques to overcome challenges and enhance student learning.
