ABSTRACT

Background:

The ApoB rs676210 polymorphism has been associated with altered lipid metabolism and cardiovascular risk in various populations; however, data from Vietnamese populations remain limited.

Objective:

This study aimed to investigate the association of the APOB rs676210 variant with lipid profiles among Vietnamese individuals newly diagnosed with elevated LDL-C.

Methods:

This cross-sectional study enrolled 69 Vietnamese adults with newly diagnosed elevated LDL-C (≥130 mg/dL). Genotyping for ApoB rs676210 was performed using allele-specific real-time PCR. Lipid parameters, including LDL-C, HDL-C, non-HDL-C, and ApoB, were measured and compared across genotypes and alleles. The data were analyzed using R environment.

Results:

Participants with the AA genotype exhibited significantly higher LDL-C (5.19 ± 0.95 mmol/L vs. 4.37 ± 0.97 mmol/L, P<.001), non-HDL-C (5.94 ± 1.08 mmol/L vs. 5.31 ± 1.22 mmol/L, P =.03), and lower HDL-C (1.26 ± 0.31 mmol/L vs. 1.44 ± 0.39 mmol/L, P =.03), as well as higher ApoB levels (149.5 ± 26.3 mg/dL vs. 136.92 ± 15.21 mg/dL, P =.02), compared to GA/GG carriers. Also, allele-based analysis revealed that carriers of allele A also had higher LDL-C, non-HDL-C, HDL-C, and ApoB levels than G allele carriers (all P <.05).

Conclusions:

The ApoB rs676210 polymorphism is associated with significant variations in lipid profiles among Vietnamese patients with elevated LDL-C, potentially serving as a genetic marker for lipid disorder screening and individualized management.
