The Intention of Primary health nurses to Participate in Internet Plus Nursing Service: A Cross-Sectional Survey
ABSTRACT
Background:
"Internet Plus Nursing Service" (IPNS) offers innovative solutions for China's growing home healthcare demands. Understanding primary care nurses' participation intentions is crucial for service optimization.
Objective:
To investigate primary care nurses' intent to engage in IPNS and identify key sociodemographic determinants.
Methods:
A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Jiangsu Province (December 2023-December 2024) using the validated Participation Intention of Nurses on IPNS Scale. Convenience sampling enrolled 3,952 nurses from 13 prefecture-level cities. Statistical analyses included t-tests and ANOVA with SPSS 22.
Results:
A total of 3952 surveys were completed. The mean total score of the participation intention scale was 66.13±7.89, with a mean participation attitude sub-score of 18.57±2.68, a mean subjective norm sub-score of 18.87±2.49, and a mean perceived behavioral sub-score of 25.67±3.48. Nurses who were male (t=-23.139, P<0.000), over 30 years of age (F=27.215, P<0.000), held a bachelor’s degree (t=-4.994, P<0.000), worked in a department with nursing management (F=45.877, P<0.000), had less organizational workload (F=9.829, P<0.000), held a higher positional rank (F=37.32, P<0.000) or professional title (F=30.176, P<0.000), had more than 11 years of experience (F=5.242, P=0.001), and had a personal income between 5000 and 10000 RMB/per month (F=16.141, P<0.000) were more likely to intend to participate in IPNS.
Conclusions:
Policymakers should prioritize three interventions: 1) Develop IPNS-specific safety protocols and legal safeguards, 2) Optimize workload allocation through intelligent scheduling systems, 3) Establish tiered incentive mechanisms targeting middle-income nurses and experienced practitioners.
