Genotype Distribution and Migration Patterns of Hepatitis C Virus in Shandong Province, China: A Molecular Epidemiology and Phylogenetic Study
ABSTRACT
Background:
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) poses significant public health challenges in Shandong, China, driven by diverse genotypic variations. Understanding these variations aids targeted public health strategies.
Objective:
This study explores the distribution and migration patterns of HCV genotypes across Shandong Province to inform disease control and preventive measures.
Methods:
We analyzed 320 serum samples from HCV-positive patients in Shandong using molecular techniques. HCV RNA segments were extracted, amplified, and sequenced. Phylogenetic trees and Bayesian skyline plots assessed the genotypic migration and historical dynamics.
Results:
Five primary HCV subtypes were identified, with subtypes 1b and 2a predominant. Migration analysis suggested historical spread from specific urban centers, correlating with fluctuating virus population sizes.
Conclusions:
The study demonstrates significant genotypic diversity and detailed migration patterns of HCV in Shandong, contributing to improved regional epidemiological understanding and healthcare strategies.
