ABSTRACT

Background:

According to recent data, Mexico ranks first in cases of school bullying worldwide.

Objective:

To contribute to the solution of this problem, we developed Bernstein, a serious game that promotes the development of assertiveness in adolescents, a protective factor known to reduce the impact of bullying on victims.

Methods:

For its creation, we followed the Multiple Composite Scenarios (MCS), a methodology for the design of serious games grounded on principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). To explore the effects produced by Bernstein, we evaluated our game in a randomised, controlled trial.

Results:

Results suggest that the promotion of the protective factor of assertiveness with Bernstein is feasible.

Conclusions:

In this work we present the results of the experiment. Additionally, we discuss the benefits and limitations of our ludic tool, and our future work to improve its effectiveness.
