Predicting the Emerging Trends of Transfusion Medicine using Complex Network Analysis of High-Impact Scholars’ Research Directions

ABSTRACT

Background:

Scholars were selected based on specific criteria, and their affiliations, research directions, and contents were standardized to construct the knowledge network.

Objective:

This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of knowledge networks in transfusion medicine, with the aim of identifying emerging trends and key areas of focus.

Methods:

The study employs a systematic approach to analyze the topological properties of the knowledge network, identifying central nodes within the field. A subnetwork is formed by examining the neighbors of these key nodes, and closed-loop pathways are explored as potential indicators of new directions in transfusion medicine.

Results:

The findings reveal that the emerging trend in transfusion medicine globally and in China is centered on transfusion management and evaluation. Furthermore, blood safety emerges as a critical and significant aspect in both the global and Chinese contexts. Future trends in transfusion medicine are projected to involve transfusion management and evaluation, with a specific focus on platelet or plasma components, as well as the application of omics.

Conclusions:

Emphasis is placed on the implications of the identified trends, with a particular focus on the global and Chinese contexts. The study underscores the significance of transfusion management and evaluation as key areas for future research, highlighting the critical role of blood safety. Special attention is given to the unique emphasis in China on blood safety and the mechanisms in place to ensure it.
