ABSTRACT
With the end of the Public Health Emergency in the U.S. on May 11, 2023, Congress has allowed certain flexibilities and waivers to continue as lawmakers try to promulgate permanent, effective regulations and rules for successful telemedicine implementation. We review key barriers, challenges, and potential solutions to telemedicine compliance and regulation. We specifically consider critical aspects of regulatory, professional, organizational, and ethical concerns in U.S. telemedicine law through relevant research, law, and government literature. Ultimately, our review identifies the need for more simplified rules and regulations to keep telemedicine accessible to providers while also updating and amending current privacy and security measures to appropriately protect patients.
