ABSTRACT

Social media (SM) has established its place in our daily lives with the COVID-19 pandemic and is the leading source of information for dermatologic literacy on various topics, from skin diseases to everyday skincare or cosmetic purposes in the present digital era. Accumulated evidence indicates that accurate medical content constitutes only a tiny fraction of the exponentially growing dermatological information on digital platforms, and there is an unmet patient need to access evidence-based information on SM. However, no publication analyzes and assesses the key elements in raising dermatologic literacy and awareness in digital communication for patients in Turkey. The present study is the first in the literature to define real-world applications in this particular field in one of Turkey's most widely used information sources. This expert panel aimed to discuss the role of dermatologists in combating misinformation and possible solutions to increase the knowledge and awareness of patients as well as to address paradigms to facilitate dermatologic outreach on SM platforms in Turkey.
