ABSTRACT

Placental extract has been mostly used in skin care for cosmetic purposes. Moreover, various placental extracts have not been utilized since effective methods to use them have not been established. Thus, in this study, we investigated the anti-wrinkle effect of a cream formulation (LNC Wrinkle Eye Cream [LNC-EC]) containing horse placental extract as the main ingredient (Trial Registration Number: 22000134, date of registration: 20/01/2023). Twenty-four healthy women, aged 37–54 years, with wrinkle grades 1–3, were treated with LNC-EC for 2 weeks. The cream was applied on one one-half of the participant’s face, and results were compared with the untreated half of the face. Visual inspection using the wrinkle grade standard showed that the LNC-EC-treated area has significantly lower wrinkle grade than the untreated area from the post- to pre-application of LNC-EC. In addition, replica analysis showed that the maximum wrinkle width and number of wrinkles were significantly lower in the LNC-EC-treated area than in the untreated area between the post- and pre-application of LNC-EC. These results suggest that LNC-EC has an anti-wrinkle effect on the corners of the eyes based on the parameters, maximum wrinkle width and number of wrinkles. LNC-EC, whose main ingredient is horse placenta extract, was shown to be effective in improving wrinkles at the corners of the eyes. This was presumably due to a reduction in maximum wrinkle width and number of wrinkles. Interpretation of the results is limited because this study was only in the intervention group. A randomized controlled trial with a p-control group should be designed and conducted to verify the anti-wrinkle effect of horse placenta extract.
