ABSTRACT

Background:

Globally, amongst all the vector-borne diseases, mosquito-borne illness is responsible for a substantial number of cases, deaths, and economic costs of at least US$ 12 billion per year. However, there is a dearth of systematic research conducted on the economic burden of mosquito-borne diseases.

Objective:

To review the economic burden of mosquito-borne diseases in low-and middle-income countries.

Methods:

The search strategy will locate studies published in English language. Systematic searches will be conducted in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL and Cochrane. Two reviewers will independently screen titles and abstracts, followed by a full-text review against the inclusion criteria. Disagreements will be resolved through discussion with the third author. The JBI checklist for economic evaluations will be utilized to evaluate the methodological quality of studies. Data will be extracted using a modified version of the JBI data extraction form for economic evaluations.

Results:

The review is ongoing, it will synthesize information in the form of tables and a narrative summary by focusing on the studies concerned with costs required to treat mosquito borne diseases.

Conclusions:

The economic evidence synthesised from the systematic review will aid the policy decisions in relation to the mosquito borne diseases. Clinical Trial: Since its a systematic review protocol, trail registration is not applicable.
