Association between Urinary Bisphenols and Body Compositions among American adults: Cross-sectional NHANES Study
ABSTRACT
Background:
Bisphenol A, S and F (BPA,BPS and BPF) are endocrine disruptors. These bisphenols will cause metabolic disorders and impact on body composition. Therefore, to determine the effect of bisphenols on body composition, we aimed to assess it.
Objective:
Our study included and analyzed data from seven NHANES survey cycles (200-2016). Finally, 18124 people were selected in our study.
Methods:
We selected data form the NHANES database. Participants assessed urinary bisphenols and body composition were included. We applied the multivariate linear expression model to evaluate their associations and conducted interactive and stratified analyses.
Results:
There was a dose-response relationship between BPA and total lean mass (TLM) or apendicular lean mass (ALM) in the model, the correlation coefficient values were -7.85, -12.33, and -11.08 (TLM); -3.31, -5.46 and -4.80 (for ALM). Additionally, the same with BPA and trunk fat (TRF) or total fat (TOF), the values were 3.55, 8.29 and 5.68 (for TRF); 8.58, 14.19 and 12.51 (for TOF). For BPS, a positive association was investigated between BPS and TRF or TOF.
Conclusions:
Our study reported that BPA is associated with changes in body composition. BPS was also associated with the changes of various body components, and it related to gender and age. Therefore, the effect of bisphenols cannot be ignored, but this conjecture still needs to be elucidated by more experiments.
