Effect of ferroptosis on infectious, inflammatory, and immune diseases is receiving attention: visualization and bibliometric analysis
ABSTRACT
Background:
Ferroptosis is a novel type of programmed death that is gaining attention for its role in disease development. Recent research indicated that it is important in infectious, inflammatory, and immune diseases.
Objective:
This paper aims to examine global research trends in the relationship between ferroptosis and infectious, inflammatory, and immune diseases and generate new research ideas.
Methods:
This work aims to systematically discuss the “ferroptosis in infection, inflammation and immune diseases” research by bibliometric analysis. Documents were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database on May 16, 2021. Statistical analysis and visualization analysis were conducted by the VOSviewer 1.6.18, and CiteSpace 5.8. R3 and Microsoft Excel 2019.
Results:
A total of 1109 publications on ferroptosis in infection, inflammation, and immune diseases publication were identified. The literature on this has grown since 2014 and will continue to a higher degree in the following years. China contributed the most significant proportion (68.62%) to ferroptosis publications. The keywords with the strong bursts were “apoptotic cell”, “autophagy”, “necroptosis”, “immune response” and “polyunsaturated fatty acids”. There are four main hotspots: ferroptosis and other programmed death: autophagy, apoptosis, and necroptosis, ferroptosis is involved in inflammatory diseases and immune infiltration, ferroptosis is applied to immunotherapy for tumors, and ferroptosis illuminates the prognosis of tumor treatment.
Conclusions:
Ferroptosis in infectious, inflammatory, and immune diseases have received increased attention in recent years, with research focusing on the association with other programmed deaths, inflammatory diseases, immune infiltration, and immunotherapy for tumors and prognosis.
