The effect of mHealth interventions on obstetrics and gynecologic health outcomes: a protocol for a systematic review of randomized controlled trials

ABSTRACT

Background:

The issue of women's health as a high-risk group has been declared by the World Health Organization as a primary priority for all human societies. In the meantime, mHealth has provided countless opportunities to reduce health inequalities, increase access to care and provide innovative interventions for women, leading to various interventions in this field. The need to check the effectiveness of these interventions seems to be an inevitable necessity. Previous systematic review articles have not comprehensively examined all types of mHealth interventions in obstetrics and gynecology.

Objective:

Our study aims to review and analyze the evidence from randomized clinical trials to comprehensively investigate the role of accompanying health in the outcomes related to women's health related to gynecological and obstetric diseases.

Methods:

We will conduct a systematic review that includes randomized controlled trials examining the effectiveness of mHealth interventions in obstetrics and gynecology. The search strategy will include "mHealth," "obstetrics and gynecology," and " Randomized controlled trials " and their synonyms. We will search Scopus, Springer, ScienceDirect, PubMed/MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov, Cochrane Library, and Cochrane Collaboration Registry of Controlled Trials to identify trials published in English from 2010 to December 2021. MHealth is described as all healthcare services provided by mobile phone technology, tablets, laptops, PDAs, and other wearable and portable devices. Two authors independently screened articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, assessed the risk of bias, and extracted data. Data will be tabulated and grouped for narrative synthesis for comparison between studies. We will assess the quality of evidence for the primary outcomes using GRADE.

Results:

The findings will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
