“A Commentary on the Digital Disruption in PT and Review of Digital Disruptor Data Claims”
ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the development and use of digital health technology to deliver exercise and rehabilitation interventions. Several companies have emerged as leaders in the digital health space, including HingeHealth, SwordHealth, and Kaia Health. Many of these companies have either directly claimed or alluded to the superiority of digital health solutions over traditional in-person care. These claims are unsupported due to flawed research designs and biased data reporting. The false claims compromise patient care and clinical outcomes. More research is needed to develop best practices for the inclusion of digital health solutions with in-person care for a hybrid model that meets patient needs and optimizes patient outcomes
