Artificial Intelligence in Emergency Medicine: foreseeable opportunities and challenges
ABSTRACT
Emergency medicine and services have reached a breaking point with the covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic has highlighted the failures of a system that needs to be rethought and novel approaches are to be considered. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has matured to the point where it is poised to funda- mentally transform healthcare and applications within emergency field are particularly promising. In this paper, we present AI applications already in use and to be developed for emergency departments. We also report on the ethical and technical challenges raised by the implementation of AI in a highly complex and unique field.
