ABSTRACT

Background:

Patients with comorbidities, including cancer, are susceptible to severe COVID-19. However, no previous review has summarized the findings of scientific nursing studies on COVID-19 in cancer patients.

Objective:

To map the topics addressed in scientific nursing publications on COVID-19 in cancer patients.

Methods:

A scoping review was conducted using the methodology described in the 2015 Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers' Handbook. The searches were carried out between April and November 2021, in eight databases, with no time restrictions.

Results:

A total of 973 publications were identified utilizing the search strategies in the databases, and 12 articles were retrieved by consulting the references of the studies found through the database searches. A total of 31 publications were included in the final analysis.

Conclusions:

The studies identified through this scoping review cover a large range of strategies that oncology nurses can use to face the COVID-19 pandemic internationally. Clinical research on oncology nursing is still scarce and should be enhanced. Future research should be conducted to support the practice of evidence-based oncology nursing. Clinical Trial: Not applicable
