ABSTRACT
Background:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, several home-monitoring programs have described the success of reducing hospital admissions, but only a few studies investigated the experiences of patients and healthcare professionals.
Objective:
The objective of our study was to determine the patients’ and healthcare professionals’ perception on the usefulness of the COVID-box.
Methods:
Patients and healthcare professionals were asked to anonymously fill out multiple choice questionnaires. Themes for patients were sense of reassurance and safety, experience with teleconsultations, appreciation to stay at home and the instructions for the COVID-box, and themes for healthcare professionals who treated patients with the COVID-box were characteristics of the COVID-box, support service and the general point of view such as (estimated patient) satisfaction, meeting expectations and supporting this telemonitoring concept.
Results:
A total of 117 patients and 25 healthcare professionals filled out the questionnaires. Both groups scored high on all themes.
Conclusions:
Positive experiences and satisfaction of involved users are key factors for a successful implementation of novel e-health solution. In our study, patients as well as healthcare professionals were highly satisfied with the use of the home-monitoring program, the COVID-box project. Remote home-monitoring may be an effective approach in case of increased demand for hospital care and high pressure on healthcare systems.
