ABSTRACT

Considering the opportunities that data-driven care provides for the personalising healthcare and the expectations that patients have when it comes to personalised services, always and everywhere, the UMC Utrecht piloted a hospital-wide innovation data analytics sandbox “ADAM” over the past four years. The goal was, based on available data and innovative data analytics methodologies, to answer clinical questions to improve patient care. After discussing the three basic principles of the program: the data analytics value chain, the innovation funnel and the multidisciplinary team, the most important lessons learned are discussed: the importance of clinical practice, the collaboration between healthcare professionals and different types of data scientists, the role of external partners, the prerequisite of available meaningful data, the complexity of implementation, the organisation aspects and collaboration in a broader sense.
