Review of Blockchain Technology Projects to Provide Telemedicine
ABSTRACT
Background:
One of the most promising areas of healthcare development is the introduction of telemedicine services and the creation of solutions based on blockchain technology. The study of systems combining both directions indicates the ongoing expansion of digital technologies in this market segment.
Objective:
The goal of this paper is to perform a systematic review to assess the feasibility of blockchain technology for telemedicine.
Methods:
Reviewers identified studies via systematic searches of databases including PubMed, and Scopus. Suitability for the inclusion of each was assessed independently. Due to the lack of publications, available blockchain based tokens were discovered via conventional web search engines (Google, Yahoo, Yandex).
Results:
Of the 36 discovered projects, only 14 met the selection criteria. The five most prevalent features of the available solutions (n = 14) were: medical data access, 10 (71%), medical services processing, 11 (79%), diagnostics support, 6 (43%), payments transaction, 6 (43%), and fundraising for telemedical instruments development, 6 (43%).
Conclusions:
Such a variety of features allows us to talk about the effective integration of blockchain technology into telemedicine and healthcare in general. In this area, a wide field of tasks can be identified that are expediently solved based on digital technologies using blockchains
