ABSTRACT

Background:

We developed a system for monitoring mental health using voice data from smartphone calls.

Objective:

The aim of this study was to exam the characteristics and effectiveness of our system from various perspectives using the acquired data.

Methods:

We opened our system to the public in the form of a prospective study in which data was collected over two years from a large unspecified sample of users.

Results:

The results demonstrated that the system was effective and had a high rate of continued use. The possibility of screening for or detecting various diseases, including depression, was also suggested, as was the need to associate the data with the user’s life events.

Conclusions:

The greatest feature of our system is monitoring, which is most effectively done by performing long-term time series analysis of the acquired data considering to the user’s life events. It is likely that patient intervention will be made easier by evaluating objective data like our system together with life events.
