Effectiveness of a Structured Video Modeling Program on Psychological Well-Being Among Final-Year Nursing Students in Thailand: A Quasi-Experimental Study
ABSTRACT
Background:
Final-year nursing students experience substantial academic, clinical, and professional demands that may adversely affect psychological well-being. Video Modeling may provide a scalable educational approach to support students’ psychological functioning; however, evidence regarding its effects on multidimensional psychological well-being remains limited.
Objective:
To evaluate the effectiveness of a structured Video Modeling program on psychological well-being among final-year nursing students in Thailand.
Methods:
A quasi-experimental, 2-group pretest-posttest study with a waitlist control group included 58 final-year nursing students assigned by existing class sections to an intervention group (n=29) or a control group (n=29). The intervention comprised 5 Video Modeling sessions over 3 weeks incorporating video scenarios, guided reflection, and peer discussion. Psychological well-being was measured using the Thai version of Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale. Analysis of covariance compared postintervention outcomes after adjustment for baseline scores.
Results:
The intervention group had significantly higher adjusted overall psychological well-being than the control group (F=18.24, P<.001, partial partial η²=.247). Significant adjusted between-group differences were observed across all 6 dimensions, with the largest domain-level effect sizes for environmental mastery, personal growth, and self-acceptance.
Conclusions:
Participation in the Video Modeling program was associated with improved psychological well-being. Because this was a nonrandomized, single-site study, randomized multisite studies with larger samples and longer follow-up are needed to confirm these preliminary findings.
