ABSTRACT

In this viewpoint, we propose a system-oriented framework for four-dimensional (4D) holographic visualization in gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. This framework reframes endoscopic visualization as an information integration problem rather than a display enhancement problem, aiming to externalize depth-resolved spatial structures and continuous temporal dynamics into shared real space. Rather than focusing on specific hardware implementations, we define essential system-level requirements, including spatiotemporal fidelity, real-time responsiveness, registration stability, and workflow compatibility. By shifting spatial cognition from implicit mental reconstruction to system-supported visualization, this approach may improve situational awareness, collaborative understanding, and training efficiency. This framework is conceptual and hypothesis-generating, and its clinical effectiveness remains to be validated.
