ABSTRACT

Digital transformation is underway to integrate digital health technologies into clinical research and care including drug development processes. The opportunities that exist because of this transformation are immense, including longitudinal insights into how participants feel and function. The digital health technology-based efforts have yielded valuable insights into effective practices and areas that need improvement. However, the development of such infrastructure is a resource-intensive task, and efficiencies could be greatly enhanced by aligning in ways that will avoid trial-and-error experiences led by individual organizations. In this perspective manuscript, we aim to highlight crucial aspects of supporting the rapid and large-scale deployment of digital health technologies. We propose the development of various standardized consensus frameworks to facilitate the seamless integration of the next generation of healthcare sensing technologies into drug development and disease management.
