ABSTRACT

Recently, the European Union has funded many projects and major initiatives related to Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Among these projects, multiple initiatives, including IDERHA, EUCAIM, ASCAPE, iHelp, Bigpicture, and HealthData@EU pilot, have established technologies and infrastructures to support the analysis of heterogeneous health data. With the adoption of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation, integrating health data has become essential in driving Primary data use cases including patient diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, as well as for Secondary use in research, innovation, and regulatory decision-making. Similarly, utilizing large amounts of suitable data can provide higher-quality training sets for Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques used as part of cancer prevention, prediction, and treatment personalization. In this paper, we studied the interoperability standards used in six EU-funded projects across different cancer use cases. We aim to create synergy between these projects and enable EHDS implementation for the secondary use of health data, known as EHDS2. Notably, the HealthData@EU pilot is involved in this study and will provide infrastructure solutions for EHDS2. As part of our analyses, we have created a template to help in designing the future EHDS2 interoperability framework.
