ABSTRACT

Background:

: Abnormal cell growth that can multiply and transfer to other bodily parts is referred to as cancer. Chemotherapy is a common treatment for cancer patients. During or after treatment, patients may have varying degrees of cognitive impairment caused by the drug, which can negatively impact their quality of life. Cognitive impairment brought on by chemotherapy is one of the most frequent side effects that occur both during and after chemotherapy. Cognitive effects after and during chemotherapy have not been addressed in patients.

Objective:

Cognitive rehabilitation and aerobic exercises are rare approaches that integrate multiple strategies, ultimately improving their cognition and quality of life.

Methods:

The patient of age group of 14-70 years and both male and female subjects diagnosed with any cancer will be going to chemotherapy. There will be a total of 30 individuals in each group during the trial. The sequentially numbered opaque sealed envelope approach will be applied to carry out the randomisation process. The planned outcome measures that will be measured. All the recall strategies, executive function tasks, information processing speed, and attention that is cognitive rehabilitation will be a beneficial therapy for cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment. The conventional group will be using aerobic exercises and cognitive behavioural therapy with the help of solving cognitive rehabilitation workbook for 4 weeks every day.

Results:

As of November 2024, we will enrol 60 participants, and the data collection process will start from November 2024- November 2025. The expected results of the effect of cognitive rehabilitation on cognition and quality of life in chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment in cancer patients will be significant, and the expected results will be published at the end week of November 2024.

Conclusions:

The study will conclude that cognitive rehabilitation is more effective than cognitive behavioural therapy with an adjunct to aerobic exercise. Clinical Trial: The study trial is registered under Trial Number: CTRI/2024/04/065805, on date 16/04/2024, the Registration URL is https://ctri.nic.in/Clinicaltrials/pdf_generate.php?trialid=102515&EncHid=24678.35134&modid=1&compid=19%27,%27102515det%27
