ABSTRACT

Background:

Introduction: Postpartum depression remains a significant concern, posing substantial challenges to both maternal well-being, infant health and their relationship amid barriers to traditional support and interventions. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions offer an accessible means to facilitate early detection and management of mental health issues, and promoting preventive care.

Objective:

Objective:

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the LoVE4MUM mobile application developed on the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy & Psychoeducation as an intervention for the prevention of postpartum depression.

Methods:

Methods:

Single-blinded, pilot randomized controlled trial design will be conducted involving 64 mothers recruited at the postnatal ward and are randomized 1:1 to receive either the Treatment as Usual postpartum care plus the self-guided LoVE4MUM mobile application.

Results:

The primary outcome assessed will be the effectiveness of the mobile application in improvement of postpartum depression. Secondary outcomes are changes in mental health literacy score and negative automatic thoughts through self-reported questionnaire.

Conclusions:

By examining the LoVE4MUM application alongside standard postpartum care, this pilot randomized controlled trial seeks to offer preliminary evidence on the potential of mHealth tools to improve maternal mental health. The findings are expected to contribute to the future development of effective, accessible, and scalable interventions for mothers.
