Transitioning To Online Learning In Basic Life Support Due To Covid- 19 Pandemic to battle the fear of out of hospital cardiac arrest- novel methods
ABSTRACT
The ongoing training in the area of Basic Life Support aims to encourage and sustain a willingness to act in Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest amongst first aiders. The contribution of witnesses/first aiders has diminished rapidly, as the suspicion associated with the current pandemic has arisen. This paper adjusts the Basic Life Support training area by employing modified teaching methods from medical education, to represent a new teaching-learning process to sustain prehospital involvement of first aiders, and encourage new ones. The most significant benefit in improving outcomes can be achieved by introducing a variety of teaching-learning methods and formative assessments, providing participants with immediate feedback to feed their way forward in the course. The new reality of online learning enforced by this pandemic requires an innovative approach to traditional training, through techniques and methods proven useful in other fields.
