Preparation for the quarantine of a cruise ship for coronavirus disease (COVID-19): The Diamond Princess in Japan
ABSTRACT
Japan has experienced the largest scale cruise ship quarantine and passenger room isolation for the infection control to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) in February 2020. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests were performed all 3,711 passengers and crew, with 696 (18.8%) positive, of which 410 (58.9%) were asymptomatic. As of March 21, fifteen patients were hospitalized with a ventilator or in intensive care units, and seven patients (1.0% of PCR test positives) have died. We also confirmed that 54% of asymptomatic patient with PCR-positive had a pneumonia image when they have a chest CT. We suggest the preparation for the quarantine of the cruise ship and transportation system for the infectious control of COVID-19.
