ABSTRACT

Background:

Locomotor activity is accompanied by a number of sensory stimuli: visual, auditory, olfactory, vestibular, and somatosensory. When improving motor skills, incorporating postural reflexes, creating synchronized eye movements, and visual attention skills, the vestibular system is particularly important

Objective:

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of Platform swing walkway on gait parameters in children with diaplegia

Methods:

Thirty diaplegic cerebral palsied children of both sexes, their age ranged from 6 to 8 years enrolled in this study. They randomly assigned into two groups of equal number; control group (A), study group (B). Group (A) received the conventional physical therapy plan. Group (B) received the same conventional physical therapy program in addition to gait training on platform swing walkway. The percentage of swing and stance phase assessed by using 2D video based gait assessment system also GMFM used to assess standing and walking before and after the treatment program.

Results:

This study showed a statistically significant improvement in both groups by comparing the mean values of all measured variables before and after treatment. There were significant differences between groups A and B in favor of group B with respect to all assessed variables when comparing the post treatment outcomes

Conclusions:

Results suggest that gait training on platform swing walkways can be included as an alternative therapeutic modality to enhance gait parameters and functional gross in diaplegic children. Clinical Trial: NCT04246658c
