A comparative analysis of melanoma detection: Dermatologist vs. ChatGPT-4o

ABSTRACT

Melanoma is a malignant skin condition. It requires visual recognition and subsequent biopsy to diagnose. ChatGPT is a new technology that has the capability to recognize visual patterns and therefore may be used to aid dermatologists in making the decision to biopsy or not biopsy a lesion. However, the efficacy of this technology in this context is unknown. A dermatologist and ChatGPT's efficacy was compared. The dermatologist was more accurate in recognizing melanoma based off of dermascope images. Therefore, clinicians should practice caution when using this technology in deciding to biopsy a melanoma.
