Impact of Chinese Social Media Information Dissemination on International Public Opinion under the Epidemic Situation

ABSTRACT

Background:

Social media has become the critical node of information dissemination in each development stage of crisis risk dissemination.

Objective:

This work aims to analyze the information dissemination of Chinese social media and the influencing factors of international public opinion under COVID-19.

Methods:

Based on the theoretical knowledge of communication, this work discusses the transmission rules, characteristics, and mechanisms of COVID-19 and Chinese social media information and the transmission methods of different social media information. Additionally, the global communication power of Chinese social media information is explained from the perspective of the media industry.

Results:

An evaluation system for the international communication strength of Chinese social media has been established. Finally, the information dissemination power of Chinese social media under COVID-19 is evaluated from the perspective of media openness and international credibility.

Conclusions:

The finding offers a theoretical basis for establishing a sustainable long-term mechanism for health communication in large-scale social public health crises.
