Establishment and application of risk prediction tool of psychological distress app for lung cancer patients
ABSTRACT
Background:
We constructed a prediction model for the psychological distress of lung cancer from a theoretical perspective. However, it is essential to develop a mobile tool based on this theoretical model to improve the application of this prediction model.
Objective:
To establish an application for predicting the risk of psychological distress of lung cancer patients and then evaluate the performance in clinical practice.
Methods:
One hundred and forty-seven patients with lung cancer were admitted from January to June 2019. Their 48 nursing staff were involved in the control group, and routine nursing care and health education were provided. In contrast, another 147 lung cancer patients and their 48 nursing staff were included in the experimental group from July to December 2019. The risk prediction tool of psychological distress APP was used to predict the risk of psychological distress, and specific interventions were utilized to manage them.
Results:
The performance of the mobile prediction tool for psychological distress of lung cancer was significantly good (AUC=0.916). The actual screening rate (χ2=22.615, P<0.001) and detection rate (χ2=11.282, P<0.001) of psychological distress was significantly higher in the study group than in control group, and the psychological status of lung cancer patients in the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group (χ2=6.520, P=0.011).
Conclusions:
With the risk prediction tool for psychological distress of lung cancer, risk prediction becomes more scientific and convenient. The application of the prediction tool benefits the increase in the detection rate of psychological distress. In addition, the targeted nursing program can be developed to improve nursing quality. Therefore, it is an effective prediction tool for lung cancer patients' psychological distress risk.
