Wearable activity trackers for real-time surveillance and risk prediction of COVID-19
ABSTRACT
Recent developments and the rapid spread of COVID-19 has necessitated the evaluation and adoption of digital technologies to help contain, trace and monitor the spread of disease. Wearable activity trackers (WATs) are one such channel which may provide valuable data and insights as to population spread of disease. This viewpoint explores the potential value of using 3 metrics currently attainable from consumer grade wearables, including; body temperature, heart rate and blood oxygenation, for individual risk prediction, monitoring and population surveillance.
