Development and Validation of Remarried-After- Divorce Quality of Life Questionnaire
ABSTRACT
Background:
As divorce rate grows, the incidence of remarriage may rise as well. In Iran, remarriage is tremendously encouraged by law and religion for the divorcees. Nevertheless, the quality of life of people who remarry after divorce is not guaranteed in literature of research.
Objective:
This study has been conducted to design and validate the questionnaire of Remarried after Divorce Quality of Life (RADQOL) to examine quality of life for post-divorce-remarried persons.
Methods:
Item pool was prepared by a qualitative phase, face and content validity was administered and then 252 remarried divorcees with the mean age of 38.4 (27≤X≥57) were found utilizing a convenience sampling method to participate in the study.
Results:
Factor analysis illuminated 24 items with 6 sub-factors for the questionnaire including, intrapersonal changes, relations to spouse, relations to family, relations to relatives, interactions to living environment, and residual effects of divorce. Items showed good factor loadings and high internal consistency within sub-factors. Alpha Cronbach’s value was more than 0.6 showing an acceptable internal consistency.
Conclusions:
RADQOL is a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate quality of life for Iranian remarried- after- divorce populations.
