An Innovatively Collaborative and Extensible Mobile Consultation and Diagnosis Platform with Advanced Data Transmission

Background:

Mobile consultation and diagnosis platform (MCDP) gets rid of limitations in fixed location for radiologists, which has improved the efficiency of diagnosis. Experts who located in different places could discuss cases on-line with visualization of medical images. In recent years, a great number of papers have published different related platforms. Due to unacceptable performance in Internet or incomplete functional designs, most of them cannot carry out in practice.

Objective:

The objective of our study was to build and test a novel MCDP with enough features and transmission method for practices in clinics.

Methods:

For these problems, an advanced collaborative strategy was proposed. During group discussion, privileged user (everyone could be) has right to interact images accompanied by AV in mobiles. Screen is shared for clients as if they located in a face to face conference. Another innovation involved optimization of traditional difference transmission. Compared with description of two integers, we put forward the bit difference compression transmission that endows bit new content and saves attractive scale of data. This idea has been applied in neighbor images delivery for sharing successfully. However, it becomes frustrated within remote 3D volume due to low similarity. We presented a novel remote collaboration in 3D volume rendering by camera status sharing, which can survive in bad network condition. By experiments it proved that proposed algorithms have obvious predominance rather than popular methods. Moreover, CUDA and off-screen techniques came to resolve speed and rendering windows overlapped. At last, we gave an excited feature plug-in. Clients can develop and share specialized plug-ins embedded in server, enriching platform for certain areas.

Results:

In evaluation of functional implementation, we had compared our proposed MCDP with similar 18 ones cited highly in recent years. As we presented advanced collaborative or transmission ideas in 2D and 3D synchronization, our platform had obvious advantages. In 11 evaluative standards, it is difficulty for a MCDP accounts for more than 60%, but ours satisfies 100%. In performances of 2D transmission, scale of necessary data by bit difference compression transmission is near 50% of difference transmission, 40% of blocks and 55% of H.264. Meanwhile, in evaluation of advanced 3D collaborative method, our proposed solution acquires extremely no more than 0.1 KB with 10 fps, when other methods cannot be accepted at all.

Conclusions:

Compared with other familiar platforms our proposed MCDP has innovative features for promoting feasibility in practice. Future work is to increase parallel computing ability and facilitate plug-in market for clients. Moreover, we wish to improve interactive experience in web for widespread.
